From the very beginning of the Congregation, the Priests of the Sacred Heart have accepted calls to serve the Church throughout the world, wherever the love of Jesus is most needed. Your fellowship and support help us spread devotion to His Sacred Heart and offer comfort to the poor and needy who rely on our charity and ministries.
Our Missions
To some of the most challenging missions in the world, the Priests of the Sacred Heart bring hope to people in need. Missionary activities include humanitarian outreach, spiritual and medical care, education, public health, housing and infrastructure, the formation of priests and much more. Your help is vital to our work toward expanding the Catholic Church.
In Congo, we provide vital care to families and children suffering the impact of war, famine and social unrest in cities and rural villages. We operate schools and hospitals, shelters for homeless children and abandoned babies.
In Cameroon, we been working very hard to help the poor and improve their living conditions but quickly recognized the glaring need of clean water. With help of several benefactors and partnerships we been constructing wells in villages without drinking water. Despite the good number of wells dug, the need for clean water is still enormous and urgent.
In India, through the help of our American donors we have built and expanded several churches to serve the growing Catholic population. In impoverished villages we are working to improve educational opportunities for children, partnering with government on health and sanitation projects and supporting small business ventures – giving hope to families mired in generations of poverty.
In Vietnam, a nation where the growing Catholic population experienced persecution not long ago, we celebrated the fourth anniversary of our official presence with the opening of our third community house to accommodate the many young men discerning a vocation with the SCJs. In Ho Chi Minh City, we support a Catholic grade school, the only one of its kind to provide free education to children of struggling migrant families.
In the Philippines, our priests established a group home where girls who were victims of domestic abuse receive the support and education they need to rebuild their lives. In the aftermath of devastating typhoons, we have partnered with other organizations to build housing for those with only tents for shelter.
In Indonesia, we are attracting a growing number of men to vocation. Our seminary in Yogyakarta prepares men to serve the Church in Asia and beyond. In Jakarta, our Blue Angel program cares for the growing number of young people addicted to drugs.
In South Africa, we work in hospices for victims of HIV/AIDS and provide support for orphaned children of parents lost to the disease. Roughly two-thirds of our priests and brothers devote themselves to pastoral work among the very poor in the country's rural areas and its scattered and isolated outstations. The longstanding generosity of American support helped lead to the formation of native born SCJs, including Bishop Zolile Mpambani of Kokstad.
In Service to the World
Currently the Priests of the Sacred Heart are engaged in ministries in more than 40 countries on five continents.
These ministries need your help! Support them: Donate Today!
Children wake each day to poverty and hopelessness. Education is the only solution to help them and their families move beyond the only life they know.
When families can afford to educate their children, boys of 10 can stay in school instead of working the fields. Girls can escape the fate of being married off at 13 only to have several children of their own by age 18.
But education costs money. That's why we have launched a Mission Education Fund to help these children get the education they need. We invite your support.
