Fr. Stephen Huffstetter, SCJ, former provincial superior of the US Province, was named vicar general of the Priests of the Sacred Heart.
“I am honored and proud that an SCJ from the US Province is serving the congregation in such a capacity,” said Fr. Ed Kilianski, SCJ, during last week’s Provincial Council meeting.
Fr. Steve was originally elected to the General Council in 2015. During last year’s General Chapter, he was elected to a second term (he is pictured above during the chapter's closing Mass). He is 59, professed his first vows in 1982 and was ordained in 1989. Prior to his election as US provincial superior in 2013, Fr. Steve was executive director of St. Joseph’s Indian School in Chamberlain, SD.
Originally from South Bend, Ind., Fr. Steve studied at and earned degrees from Loyola University and Catholic Theological Union in Chicago. He holds a D.Min. in cross cultural ministry.
He is scheduled to visit the US Province later this month, helping in Mississippi at the parishes during Easter, and visiting our retired SCJs in Pinellas Park, FL. The province visits will be in between time with family before he returns to Rome on May 1.
Let the Priests of the Sacred Heart pray for your loved ones and intentions.
