The Priests of the Sacred Heart find a new expression of faith in India.
Opened in early 2017, the Dehon Tailoring Center is already expanding and bringing more opportunities to women in the very poor village of Vempadu.
Conceived by Fr. Jojappa, SCJ, pastor of the Bell Tower Church, the Center teaches women, many over the age of 50, valuable sewing skills that help them earn money for their families. Just as important, it gives these women a new sense of pride and purpose.
Ever since the Center opened, it has been kept busy with orders for items such as purses, school uniforms, vestments for priests and much more. Sr. Merita, a former superior of her community stationed in Rome, was brought in to supervise the workers, oversee projects, build and market the Center’s capabilities, and manage growth.
In rural areas of India served by the Priests of the Sacred Heart, the average wage is only $100 per month! An important part of our mission is to help villagers improve their economic and living conditions, along with their spiritual well-being.
Thanks to the generosity of American donors, the Center is now able to add more sewing machines and help more women contribute to their families.
Let the Priests of the Sacred Heart pray for your loved ones and intentions.
