For the past six years, Fr. Frank Wittouck has been involved with Magnificat Houses, a Houston non-profit agency that supports a soup kitchen, offers job training and provides emergency shelter as well as many other services for people struggling on the fringes of society.
Fr. Frank was first introduced to Magnificat when he was asked to lead Mass for the Feast of the Sacred Heart. He’d forgotten the chapel address and found his way via the soup kitchen. “I saw what a terrific place Magnificat was,” he said, “and accepted the offer to teach religion classes and say Mass.”
A passionate advocate for the organization’s work for Houston’s neediest residents, Fr. Frank moved on-campus two years ago to pursue his “intentional ministry of presence” full time. He is especially involved with the Jobs Program, teaching resume and interview skills and connecting with outside job counselors on behalf of his flock. He also helped open a thrift store to serve a disadvantaged neighborhood.
(Magnificat Houses is a supported through the Justice, Peace and Reconciliation Commission of the Priests of the Sacred Heart.)
