In late November 2014, members of our congregation from across the globe gathered in Congo to commemorate the sacrifices of 28 SCJs who gave up their lives 50 years before in the bloody Simba revolution. The occasion was also a celebration of our 117-year commitment to the Congolese people.
Despite very challenging circumstances, the Priests of the Sacred Heart have made great progress in serving the needs of children and families in urban and rural communities. Today, the call for our missionary work is more urgent than ever as the country continues to suffer from armed conflicts and disruption. We provide vital healthcare and education – and a sense of stability – to hundreds of Congolese with nowhere else to turn.
Fr. Zenon, SCJ, Provincial Superior of Congo, has set a bold vision for programs and building projects to tackle in the coming years. Chief among them is a new school to serve the needs of abandoned children. Grants from the US Province, supported by the gifts of our loyal friends, are helping to bring Fr. Zenon’s plans to life.
Let the Priests of the Sacred Heart pray for your loved ones and intentions.
