During this past Veterans Day, the Priests of the Sacred Heart remembered all of those who served their country in times of conflict. They looked closer this year as it was the 100th anniversary of the end of World War I. They reflected on the ultimate sacrifice made by the Congregation of the Priests of the Sacred Heart and its religious members during “the war to end all wars” as it was known.
It was a war that impacted the Priests of the Sacred Heart significantly. Thirty-three religious (including seminarians) lost their lives, many others were injured. The Congregation itself faced great hardship in Europe during the war with many religious houses ruined.
On November 26, the Priests of the Sacred Heart will commemorate “Dehonian Memorial Day” to honor and remember those who were forced to participate in this Great War. Also remembered are the 25 SCJs who were martyred in the Republic of the Congo in 1965. Please remember in your prayers all who have been killed in conflicts around the world.
Let the Priests of the Sacred Heart pray for your loved ones and intentions.
