Sacred Heart Seminary and School of Theology held a special gathering of scholars to discuss the legacy of Pope Francis. The Holy Father has been embraced by Catholics and persons of other faiths for his charisma and especially for his efforts to reach out to the poor and for his own humility.
Throughout his ministry, he is noted for his concern for the poor and interfaith dialogue. He meets with religious leaders from other faiths often. He demonstrates his simplicity by choosing to live in the guest house of the Papal residence instead of the Apostolic Palace. His vestments are simple, along with a simple cross made of iron that he wears to represent his office. His papacy is noted for reaching out to those at the fringes of society, like washing the feet of prisoners on Holy Thursdays and for reaching out to divorced Catholics.
The seminar will focus on how the Pope has put his stamp on the Catholic Church, maintaining orthodoxy while making new inroads to our faith.
