After several years of planning and preparation, the Priests of the Sacred Heart in the Diocese of De Aar celebrated the opening of the Divine Mercy Centre.
Encompassing a preschool, a school for children with disabilities, and a hospice for the elderly poor, the Centre is funded in part by the US Province and the generosity of friends like you.
De Aar, in the Northern Cape area of South Africa, is an area suffering with poverty and disease. Nearly 80% of the population does not get enough to eat. The Divine Mercy Center fills an important need for the community.
The Centre’s preschool provides quality education and a safe haven for as many as 328 students. It is a much-needed resource for families seeking a nurturing and secure environment for their young children.
The school for special needs children currently serves 58 boys and girls, but soon will allow for as many as 170 students. It’s the only school of its kind in the area that focuses on integrating children with disabilities into community life.
The hospice answers the urgent need for the care of the poor and the homeless who are near the end of life. There will be space for 15 patients receiving round-the-clock professional nursing care.
Let the Priests of the Sacred Heart pray for your loved ones and intentions.
