Rain could not diminish the spectacular dedication ceremony for the new Bell Tower at Sacred Heart Church in Vempadu, India in early September, 2015.
Benefactors from the U.S. were among those who donated to the construction of the recently completed structure.
The bell tower is not the kind you’d likely see in America. A church bell tower in India, at least in the state of Andhra Pradesh, is actually towering shrine to Jesus, Mary and the Pieta that includes a bell to call parishioners to prayer.
The bell tower was added to the front of the formerly simple structure in this poor, rural village. However, there was nothing simple about Sacred Heart Church on the evening of the dedication ceremony, as it was lit with bright colors and draped with strings of lights.
The dedication ceremony began with a ribbon-cutting by Fr. Tom Cassidy of the U.S. Province, followed by a blessing from Bishop Jaya Rao Polimera. Rain forced the Mass inside, but the crowd was so large that many people stood outside, listening to the prayers, songs and presentations.
Let the Priests of the Sacred Heart pray for your loved ones and intentions.
