Dear Friend of the Sacred Heart,
In the liturgy of Holy Saturday, the vigil of Easter, with the lights of the church turned off, a fire is lit and blessed with these words:
Father, we share in the light of Your glory through Your Son, the light of the world. Make this new fire holy, and inflame us with new hope. Purify our minds by this Easter celebration and bring us one day to the feast of eternal light.
What a perfect way to remind us that no matter how dark things may appear, Christ is the light of the world! All the darkness in the world cannot extinguish the light He brings to our lives.
In today’s world, you and I find ourselves surrounded by difficulties and problems. Every life is touched by hardships and uncertainty.
I hear from our missionaries around the world as armed conflicts rage across Africa, millions of typhoon survivors seek safe homes in the Philippines, and families across India and Southeast Asia struggle for decent medical care. Here in America, another year of slow economic recovery takes its toll on the poor to whom we minister.
Today, more than ever, we must turn to Christ to allow His light to shine through us and enlighten the world.
I ask you to join me and all the Priests of the Sacred Heart in our work of preaching the message of Easter to our less fortunate brothers and sisters. I invite you to show your compassion with a generous sacrificial offering.
I also invite you to be part of our Easter celebration. Beginning on Easter Sunday, the Priests of the Sacred Heart will celebrate the Resurrection of Christ with a special Easter Novena of Masses. Please join your intentions with ours as we praise our loving God for the gift of his Son, Jesus Christ, our loving Savior.
May His Sacred Heart bless you with abundant faith and home, and may His peace be yours this Easter…and always!
Sincerely in the Sacred Heart,
Father Dominic, SCJ
